What is the SEQR Act?

The New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQR) is state and local government requirement to review the environmental impacts as attributed to proposed private and public funded actions.

Privately or publicly funded projects may require a SEQR evaluation to determine environmental impacts. These impacts may include but are not limited to land disturbances, wetland disturbance, historical or archeological site disturbances, and more.

What is the SEQR Process?

The SEQR process is a well established format set up to guide each applicable project through the proper channels of environmental assessment. Applicants can expect the following steps for mapping their SEQR submission:

  • Classification of the proposed Action or Project (Is SEQR Submission warranted?)
  • Environmental Assessment Form Completion
  • Coordinating Review with Appropriate Regulators
  • Determination of Significance
  • Review and/or Filing of Public Comment, if applicable
  • Environmental ImpactStatement (EIS) (If warranted)
  • SEQR Determination
